FAQs
Common questions, straight answers.
Age & Level Requirements
How old does my child need to be to join?
We accept swimmers from age 9 upwards. Our oldest current swimmer is 15.
What swimming level does my child need to be?
Your child needs to be a confident, independent swimmer. They should be at Stage 10 or above and able to swim continuously for at least 400 metres with correct technique. If you are unsure whether your child is ready, just reach out and we can have a chat.
Does my child need previous competitive experience?
Definitely not. None of our swimmers join with racing experience. What matters is that they can swim confidently and are keen to improve.
What if my child is already a competitive swimmer?
Great. Bring them along for a trial and our coach will assess their current level and slot them into the right training group. We work with swimmers of all levels, from first-time racers through to athletes chasing state qualifying times.
The Free Trial
What is the free trial?
The free trial is a one-week, no-obligation trial of squad training. Your child trains alongside the squad at a normal session so they can get a real feel for the program. There is no cost and no commitment required.
How do I book a trial?
Fill out the trial request form on our homepage. Once we receive it, we will be in touch to confirm a session time that works for you.
What happens after the trial?
After the trial week, the club will chat with you and your swimmer about how it went and whether joining the squad is the right next step. There is no pressure either way. If you want to join, we will walk you through registration on Swim Central and getting your club gear sorted.
What should my child bring to the trial?
A swimsuit, goggles, a towel, and a drink bottle. A swim cap is helpful but not essential for the trial. We will let you know everything you need in the confirmation email before your first session.
Is there any cost involved in the trial?
No. The trial is completely free. If your child decides to join after the trial, there is an annual Swimming WA registration fee and term training fees, but we will explain all of that once you are ready to sign up.
Sessions
When do sessions run?
Sessions run Monday and Wednesday mornings from 6:30 am to 8:00 am, and Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
Where are sessions held?
All training sessions are held at the Margaret River Recreation Centre.
Do I need to attend every session?
Development squad swimmers should commit to a minimum of two sessions per week. Performance squad swimmers are encouraged to do three or four. If you miss a session, you do not need to let anyone know. We are currently not running during school holidays, though this may change in the future.
